Earth Rocks!

Pack 93 was fortunate to host Dino Zack, Geologist on Mondays Pack meeting to share his knowledge with our scouts about  different rocks and minerals, where they came from, how to test to see what kind of rock  it might be and tons of other super cool stuff about rock and minerals.

Dino had all kinds of samples of rocks to help the boys think differently about what might be in their backyard.  He then had several rock testing kits for the boys to try out and take home.

It was a great night of STEM and hands on learning for Pack 93.

FYI…Dino shared with us that if you want more STEM hands on with geology there is a Gem and Mineral show ( he will be there!) on March 24th and March 25th 2018 at the Hamburg fairgrounds… they are having a gold  theme with a bunch of hands on activities

A big thanks to Dino for a great Pack meeting and presentation!

Summer Camp!

Check out a few pictures from last years Cubscout camp at Camp Scouthaven! It was a Western Theme throughout camp and added to the fun was  Archery, BBguns, obstacle course, rowboats, Nature Mary’s camp, and who dosen’t love heading to the Trading post for a cold slushee after a long day of playing in the woods.

Come out with your pack mates July 19th through the 22nd for a weekend you and your son won’t forget.  This is not just for Dads only as we have had lots of Moms from Pack 93 stay and camp with their boys!

Camperships ( kind of like tuition assistance) are available through council depending on financial need so if you would like to go but not sure if you can swing the cost see Scott Simmons Pack 93 coordinator for the paperwork to submit to our Council.

Pack 93 @ UB Bulls Basketball Game

” …to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake , and morally straight.”

This last part of the scout oath is about taking care of yourself.  You stay physically strong when you eat the right foods and get plenty of exercise.  You stay mentally awake when you work hard in school, learn all you can , and ask questions.  You stay morally straight when you do the right thing and live your life with honesty.

Pack 93 had a great night out at the  University of Buffalo  watching the Bulls take on Miami of Ohio on a Nationally televised game.  There was a pizza party before the game  and the boys were invited to be the color guard prior to the  game. Very cool!

Another favorite of this event is standing on the players line and giving the athletes a high five before they enter the court.

The boys who worked extra hard on the popcorn sale earned 2 free tickets to the game; nice job Cub Scouts!

Pack 93 Niagara vs. Canisus Hockey Game at HarborCenter

A Cub Scout is Helpful: You make a difference to your team when you are helpful–both on and off the field.

Many of the different levels of Scouting badges require that the Boys visit a sporting event with your family or den.  It encourages the scouts to see ways that teams work together and demonstrate good sportsmanship.

What better way to fulfill this requirement than to head to the new state of the art Harborcenter to watch the Canisus Golden Griffins take on the Niagara Purple Eagles!

Great turnout from Pack 93 friends and families and as you can see below some great seats to see all the action right up close.

After the game the Golden Griffs  even made arrangements for the scouts and family members to get autographs from a  couple of the hockey players.

Pack 93’s First Winter Campout!

There was  a great time had by all for Pack 93’s Inaugural Winter Campout at Camp Scouthaven!

Many of you had asked for more camping and outdoor activities in the 2015-2016 scouting year and this was one of the new additions to the Harris Hill Pack 93 program.

We camped in 2 cabins from Friday night to Sunday morning and had a fun program of hikes, games, fire building, fire safety, skits, crafts and sledding (while the snow lasted).

One of the highlights was presented by our Webelo den members Cayden, Carson and Karl teaching the boys how to make and be safe with  campfires.  The cubs  also had a station teaching the boys how to make firestarters out of egg cartons, wax and sawdust.

After these stations all the boys paired up and had a fire starting competition, both teams did excellent job starting a fire without matches- (flint and steel), trying to find dry wood in a very wet forest, and then boiling water in a Dixie  cup ( you’ll  have to ask one of the campers how that is even possible…); it was great to watch the teamwork and sportsmanship between the Cub Scouts.

Make sure to put this one on your calendar for next year as it was a hit.

2015 Caroling- Fa La La La La

The 8th point  of the scout law…

A Scout is Cheerful:  A Scout looks for the bright side of life.   He cheerfully does tasks that come his way.  He tries to make others happy

Scouts of the Harris Hill-Pack 93 Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelo dens spent the evening caroling at two local nursing homes ( Brothers of Mercy and Harris Rehabilitation Center).  All of the boys did an incredible job singing and spreading some Christmas cheer for the residents.

The boys also spent the prior Pack meeting making some creative ornaments to hand out to the residents of the nursing homes.

We are very proud of the scouts and look forward to the great leaders and great  community citizens that these scouts / boys will become.
